Solar Eclipse! New Moon in Leo

Eclipse 8-21-2017

The last time we had a similar solar eclipse was in 1979, which touches on the generation born with Pluto in Libra — where Jupiter is currently transiting. This eclipse is one in a long running series called the Saros cycle, going back hundreds of years, but in the short term, many are speculating that the fixed star Regulus which is conjunct the sun and moon for this eclipse, is going to have consequences for President Trump, whose natal Regulus is being contacted. However, I can’t say I’m all that interested in the movements of the government — it’s our personal lives that will be affected as the moon interrupts the light of the sun on August 21, 2:31 pm.

As well as an eclipse being fraught with ages old fear and suspicion, we have Mars nearby the luminaries at 20 degrees of Leo, forming a trine to Saturn and Black Moon Lilith at 21 degrees of Sagittarius . The conjunction of BML and Saturn itself in the happy go lucky sign of Sagittarius is interesting in its own right, and more importantly, Saturn is preparing to move forward. As the sun and the moon join for the eclipse, Saturn is in a similar state — suspended and in stasis. This will not last for long. Once this passes, events will move forward with a dizzying speed. The trine from Mars to BML and Saturn, friendly fire signs each, are going to set off events with a quickness.

When we last had a grand fire trine under the Cancer new moon, I saw numerous people with upheaval in their personal lives and at home. During this solar eclipse new moon, we aren’t dealing with the same extremity of the cardinal sign of Cancer, so we may be able to expect something less disruptive — but no less dramatic! Leo loves the drama of it all. With the North Node at 23 degrees of Leo — the North Node being critical in relationship to the moon, since, like BML, it’s a measurement based on the moon’s orbit and not an actual heavenly body — the north node shows us the karmic direction, our life’s “quest” as we live on this earth. The quest is never easy. With the north node in Leo and the eclipse elapsing, there may be events happening from mid-July to mid-September that are “fated”.

Events that are “fated” are things we do not have control over and come crashing into our lives unexpectedly. In some cases, they may not “crash” so much gently appear into our lives. With Mercury in retrograde at 8 degrees of Virgo, this could even bring people from the past as we close up any unfinished business. There might be bittersweet endings, happy returns, and peaceful farewells. It opens up space for us to perhaps reunite with people we lost track of — or maybe, like a domino effect, something comes to light that changes our life as information is exchanged. This is the nature of unexpected, fated events. Things that happen now may stand to change both ourselves and our circumstances for the rest of our lives. Now is the time to be generous, to assume the role of leader, and invite all the best that Leo has to offer as changes appear.

In addition to the trine from Mars to Saturn and BML, there are trines forming from the luminaries at 28 degrees of Leo to Uranus, retrograde, at 28 degrees of Aries. Uranus will be moving into Taurus in the next year or two, and so as he marches through the final degrees he too, will be tying up loose ends. With the trine to the sun and the moon, fated events may indeed come crashing in unexpectedly, as Uranus is like a lightning strike, unstoppable and radical. In the cardinal house of Aries — more fire! — Uranus’s trine will prove potent indeed. People may be prone to butt heads or argue, especially with Mercury in retrograde and there will be a nervous tension that in its worst element, will seek release through argument and conflict. Alternatively, all this fire in support of Uranus at such a critical eclipse time could give illumination to genius moments as well. Uranus makes us rebellious as we struggle with the anxiety of the sun going dark as it seldom does in the course of our lives.

The North Node at 23 degrees of Leo trines Uranus at 28 degrees of Aries as well, and the North Node also trines Saturn.

We will face up to squares coming in from Venus at 24 degrees of Cancer, to Jupiter at 20 degrees of Libra. This emotional Venus in the cardinal sign will indicate either money or romance issues in our home, private lives, contending with a more public issue among friends. With Mercury in retrograde, there might be a misunderstanding at play, a missed bill that causes our cable to be cut off, or a lover’s spat taken too far. With Venus closing in on the last degrees of Cancer, it won’t be much longer before Venus leaves this cardinal sign for fun loving Leo, following after Mars and swinging by the North Node. Perhaps fated love and good fortune will also follow on her heels when she is done weeping in emotional Cancer.

We also deal with a square from Uranus at 28 degrees of Aries to Venus at 24 degrees of Cancer. As though the square to Jupiter in Libra, another cardinal sign, wasn’t challenging, Uranus in Aries throws his hat into the ring. There will be pressure in these cardinal signs that represent such important aspects of life — home life, friends and family, and our ego-identity. It could be that Venus is also retracing where the Cancer moon from June was not so long ago, sweeping up after the luminary. Uranus gives us the unexpected, so while there may be break ups indicated with Venus in the natural 4th house domicile of Cancer, the house of beginning and endings, there may be love walking into our lives as well. With the square indicated, none of these things will enter in without the discomfort of hard choices, conflict, and other difficulties that must be dealt with.

Lastly, there’s a semi-square forming between Mercury in retrograde at 8 degrees of Virgo, and Venus in Cancer. Whatever problems Venus may be facing, beset with so many squares, communication will be at the heart of all. Whether it’s love or money, there may be a need to negotiate with a light touch concerning sensitive parties, and Venus’s Greek counterpart Aphrodite was said to be blessed with a divine girdle that granted her the gift of flattery. Perhaps that ancient lesson can be applied here. Recognize the good side of people and it may go a long way to smoothing over potential difficulties now and later. Too much criticism will go awry with Mercury’s retrograde position, blowing up into unexpected disagreements. With Venus in Cancer, it can be easy to get caught up in an emotional tailspin. Don’t let it spin you around! Use Virgo’s cool-headed analytic bent to keep yourself on track.

Leo New Moon 0 Degrees: Lionheart

Leo New Moon

This New Moon at 0 degrees of Leo starts a cycle that won’t complete until January 2018 — and that future completion will include aspects to the North Node and a heavy influence from Venus. What plans and strategies will you use this new moon for?

Last new moon may have ushered in endings for some; this new moon will usher in new beginnings under Leo’s blessing. What does it mean? Fun, creativity, a splash of drama, perhaps, children and starting one’s own business are all aspects Leo encourages, and with Mars conjunct at 1 degree with the Sun and the Moon in Leo, now is the time to harness the heart of the lion and use its solar power to remake your stage and assume the role you were meant to perform: you, of course, bold and amazing you! Leo wants everyone to know you’re on center stage, so get your lines ready and decide how you want the play to carry you into January of 2018 when the events you set into motion now will reach fruition. This would be an excellent time to do things regarding a business or money making venture in a creative field, as Venus down the line will deliver fortune at the completing full moon in January, 2018. Mars will will give you the energy to reach your goals.

Other significant aspects include a trine from Jupiter at 15 degrees of Libra to Venus at 20 degrees of Gemini — double your fun! Your expanding relationships may become extra chatty and affectionate.

Saturn at 22 degrees of Sagittarius trines Mercury at 26 degrees of Leo, suggesting that communications, contracts, and agreements at this time will move smoothly. Creativity, businesses, foreign travel and higher education might have their place in these types of agreements. Uranus at 28 degrees of Aries trines Mercury at 26 degrees of Leo as well, and so the quirky, unexpected and innovative may come to crash the party; with fast-moving trine energy, don’t fight against the tide, but use the momentum of events creatively.

Squares that might give us problems include Uranus at 28 degrees also squaring the Sun, Moon, and Mars in Leo. Unlike the trine to Mercury, the Uranus square will provide a challenge that affects our public and private life, forcing us into unexpected problem solving mode and distracting us from the fun we had planned. Take care of business and move on, and have a backup plan for your backup plan.

Last, we have an interesting opposition between Venus at 20 degrees of Gemini and Black Moon Lilith at 17 degrees Sagittarius, and Saturn at 22 degrees retrograde in Sagittarius. What is saucy Lilith doing with old man Saturn? Whatever may be at play, a hidden sexuality or affair may come to light under Venus’s pressure, or it could be that a seduction — absent of sex — is revealed in matters of law or career, and Venus’s function revolves more around the flow of money than an actual, nurturing female presence at odds with Lilith’s raw sexuality. Either way, the women in your life might be feeling the pull of these dual female energies in more subtle ways, exacerbated by a square between Lilith and Neptune at 13 degrees of Pisces.

Whatever happens, try to keep it fun under this Leo aspect and you’ll be well supported.

Full Moon Eclipse In Leo on 2/10/2017, Impressions

Buckle up for this eclipse. I’m excited — are you?

We have a Leo-Aquarius polarity between the sun and the moon — the king and the fool standing on opposite sides of the court, the regal and revolutionary powers. Yet, with the moon in Leo, by rulership, this moon is happy to work with the sun. Politics are on everyone’s mind, so this amplifies the mood already at hand.

What’s interesting is that the Moon is fast approaching Regulus and there’s a good post that touches on what those fixed stars in that constellation of Leo means here. What is also prominent is that Regulus figures in Trump’s natal chart, so this eclipse might be ushering in truly unexpected changes in Trump’s character — or priming him for a fall. Either way, we little people outside the realm of influence in the political world of presidents and kings are dealing with our revolutionary troubles at home, at work, and in community. Lines are being drawn and people are being pushed in directions that heretofore were not prime issues in life. No one is allowed neutrality, anymore, and so this friction will likely bubble up during this eclipse.

In addition to the fixed star Regulus, we have a rather interesting conjunction of Jupiter at 23 degrees in Libra, sitting right on top of fixed star Spica. Jupiter, while often considered “benevolent” is really neither good nor bad, but a planet of expansion, which means it makes both the good and the bad bigger than they were before. Amplification does not always work in our favor, after all. However, rejoice, because Spica is a fixed star of wealth and good fortune joining forces with Jupiter!

Another aspect that leaps out from the chart is the arrangement of parallel and contra-parallel planets. The moon, Uranus, Sun, and Jupiter share in this arranged from their signs of Leo, Aries, Aquarius, and Libra. That’s quite a foursome of signs, criss-crossing their energies with regards to self-interests and community interests, between relationships and individuals.

Uranus in opposition to Jupiter in Libra is, as I’ve mentioned and will continue to, touching off those who were born with Pluto in Libra in the late ’70s, early ’80s. For them, these years will be defining points in their lives. Changes will be felt by all, but for this generation in the prime of life, what they do now will have severe consequences in the future, and those are, of course, political issues as well as personal ones. For those born outside of that time frame, things are no less heated, but the ramifications will be different. Everyone is being pushed into change by Uranus in Aries, but for the younger generation, there is still time yet to change course, refine purpose, and go beyond fixed fate. For the Pluto in Librans, age often closes windows of opportunity in our lives because we can’t suffer changes and surprises with the same fluidity as we could when we are young — and that’s hardly an astrological issue, but rather, one that is the evolving pattern of life. The clock is ticking. During this eclipse, choices will be determining the personal and collective future in a big way, and I’d be curious to know what executive orders, what bills, and what laws might be changed under its influence. Finance in our personal lives may also play a part, for while Spica is a fortunate star, the influence of Jupiter crossing over Pluto’s generational tracks may be revealing debts that need to be repaid, problems in spending, possessions being divided, or windfalls.

We also have a grand fire trine. I was born under a similar fire trine, so to say I’m supercharged and excited by this pattern is an understatement. Our trine comprises of Uranus in Aries, the Moon in Leo, and Saturn in Sagittarius. A strange arrangement of energies anchored in the moon and crossed over by the sun, Saturn in its detriment in Sagittarius plods away slowly though the 25th degree. His slow and steady gait will eventually over take electric Uranus in the sign of the Ram, while the moon in her swiftness dances around them all, but for now at their triangular points in fire signs should give us a sense of urgency in our individual tasks and matters, galvanizing us to meet challenges with extra vigor, even if the road is bumpy and our challenges unanticipated.
