Full Moon Penumbral Lunar Eclipse at 13 Capricorn, July 5, 2020 12:44 AM

This time around we find ourselves at the next Penumbral full moon lunar eclipse. Over and over again we find ourselves presented with challenges by the planets, but perhaps none so much as eclipse season. How are you progressing in your journey of this incredible and vital life?

This time, we experience the eclipse on July 5, in the early morning hours of 12:44 EST. The moon positioned at 13 degrees of Capricorn, opposing the sun at 13 degrees of Cancer. The Capricorn – Cancer polarity is the overriding theme of this lunation. These cardinal signs encompass some of the most important elements of our lives. Cancer is ruled by the moon, and so is at his detriment in the sign of Capricorn, forced to look upon the place where he is at his happiest. This makes for a very unsatisfying eclipse.

Capricorn is the natural 10th house and is ruled by Saturn. Here, work and career is highlighted, rules and the status quo are of importance. We may have volatile emotions embedded in the career field now, nerves may fray, and the crossing of the moon through the 10th house may also, along with the power of the eclipse, usher in endings at the work place, or the endings of projects.

Our personal life may become the subject of public events. How that manifests will come down to individual charts, but expect more break ups between lovers, severed relationships of people who may have formerly been living together, and also, for career positions to come to an end – either expected, or unexpected.

With the sun in Cancer, we will feel nostalgic, we may wish to hang on to the comforts of home and the home environment. Perhaps all the remote work some have experienced is wearing thin, or the opposite has happened — a deeper desire to dig in has taken hold. This lunation will transform our work space, and transform our home space — and in some cases, those places will be one and the same.

Mercury tags along close to the sun, but not too close to be tightly conjunct in Cancer, at 7 degrees. Still moving retrograde, this does mean Mercury and the sun will pass each other, suggesting that Mercury is not only in retrograde and causing his usual amount of frustration, but that additionally as he comes closer and reaches combustion with the sun, communications will be harder and harder. Mercury will have continuing problems communicating effectively. Take a deep breath and be patient with everyone at home, and check the telecommunications equipment.

Venus is striving through Gemini, where she has tread before, but this time, going forward. She has been gaining clarity about her situation, and in the sign of Gemini, the twins, it would not be surprising if she is facing a choice between two lovers, two friends, two investments. Now comes the weighing of value between them all, and this full moon lunar eclipse is ripe for making permanent choices about which path to choose.

Venus sextiles Mars, who is at 4 degrees of Aries where he will remain for the majority of the year. Here, Mars is in his full power, happy to be in the sign he rules. Mars rules over the military, soldiers, warriors, but notably, also the police. Mars has great force, and in its most benevolent aspect, this force is intended to protect the weak, to safeguard those who cannot safe guard themselves. Mars at his best is a hero’s energy — giving of his spirit.

Mars forms a loose square to the sun and the moon. This harsh aspect will find force meets with frustration and that warrior energy will be tested, and it’s expression may not be so benevolent. However, this square is not exact; we may find that the real test is less an expression of violence, but more a transformation of warriors everywhere. Mars in Aries loves new beginnings, and pioneering. Mars is about to be taking down and reconsidering his old structures for new, since we have a retrograde on the horizon. Expect this moon to see a change in how aggression is dealt with. The resolution will accompany friction.

Saturn at 29 degrees of Capricorn and retrograde, is clustered with Pluto at 24 degrees, and Jupiter at 23 degrees. Saturn is coming back in to take care of unfinished business, and he will no doubt be reconfiguring the status quo to accommodate the huge generational changes that Pluto and Jupiter will usher in. Expect the law to be a recurring theme. Keep an eye on the Supreme Court Justices, for the landmark decisions they make during this period will echo for a generation to come.

The uglier aspect of this full moon eclipse is the Jupiter and Pluto conjunction in Capricorn. Pluto destroys and transforms, while Jupiter expands. This is a potent combination, and Jupiter is not happy to be in the constraining house of Saturn. We hope this conjunction passes us by with as little damage as possible, but I would expect to see corporations suffer serious blows, more struggles with economic constraints brought by the coronavirus, and unfortunately, the possible expansion of infection of the virus. This may be further exacerbated by aspect to Neptune in Pisces, who sextiles Pluto, bringing in the moist environment that some of have speculated gave rise to the virus as well, as the origin was indeed, a “wet market”, and between Pisces and Cancer, we have quite a bit of water to contend with.

Uranus at 10 degrees of Taurus is trining the moon in Cancer. He is a third of the way through his journey in Uranus, and we can see by now that changes have been made to the landscape specifically in terms of resources and values. While there are many thoughts on what more can we expect from this aspect – imminent legalization of marijuana, disruption in currency or cryptocurrency — there can be no clearer picture than what is emerging right in front of us, with the monumental job losses suffered in the United States thus far. The issue of resources will be not only those of earth, those of money, but also, those of spiritual mettle and character, as we confront difficulties that will force us to find the inner “gold” of alchemy.

A Pox On Our Houses: Solar Eclipse at 0 Degrees of Cancer, June 21, 2020

This post contains affiliate links at the end.

When? Jun 21, 2020,  2:41 AM

What? New moon, Solar Eclipse at 0 degrees of Cancer

A new moon solar eclipse occurs at 0 degrees Cancer on June 21, 2:41 am, and represents great shifts happening in our homes, our family lives, and our emotional selves. New moons have always been a great time to start new projects, but this new moon’s intense energy and proliferation of retrograding planets make new projects both daunting and difficult to maintain for the long term. A square from Mars and Neptune in Pisces confronting our emotional Sun and Moon also throws a wrench into our plans. More so, Cancer is a cardinal sign of beginnings and endings, with the mother of all events when it comes to beginnings and endings: the new moon eclipse.

We have Venus, Mercury, Jupiter, Saturn, and Pluto retrograding. It should be understood that the larger planets have regular retrogrades that form the background of our day to day lives and are not generally intrusive in the same way that Mercury, Venus, and Mars are. It is Venus and Mercury’s retrograde that will make the launch of any new project more difficult than usual. And while no one need let the stars stop them from signing contracts and making important decisions that cannot be put off, you may well end up having to go back over these or re-doing them.

Complicating matters is that Cancer is also a sign that oversees breakups, endings and beginnings. There are going to be people moving out of homes, finalizing divorces, or breaking up. Given the pressures of the pandemic that have been building up between couples at home, if partners were able to avoid each other’s difficult traits because they could distract themselves with entertainments and trips before, all that began to unravel once everything was shut down. Now, as things open back up, people will be wanting to reassess what their relationships are going forward — and they may not resemble what they were before.

The square from the sun and the moon in Cancer contacting Mars and Neptune in Pisces will also come into play with these watery signatures. Don’t fight against the tide, or you will only wear yourself down. It is better to go with the flow and stay with the trends. Mars in Neptune is having difficulty finding his path clearly, and is bound to get angry if he feels lost — which of course, he will. Mars in Neptune will not express well, and in an effort to avoid responsibility, looks to perpetuate cycles of abuse to avoid confrontation.

Saturn, at 0 degrees of Aquarius in retrograde, is turning back around to take care of something he forgot, and he intends to address the situation with our potentially abusive Mars. The sextile from Saturn provides not only a stabilizing force, but an energy similar to a father who is tucking his head inside a door to check on the unruly kids. The law will hold when Mars tries to get away with breaking things. The only problem here is that Pluto and Jupiter are conjunct in Capricorn, at 24 and 25 degrees. They have increased potential for amplifying destruction during this period. How much damage will they do by the time Saturn comes around to check on things? Quite a lot, as it turns out. Lay low for this lunation until the storm has passed.

Mercury in retrograde at 14 degrees of Cancer is going to rewrite the way we conduct our relationships. An obvious part of this is how people who are doing online dating are choosing to facetime or make video calls rather than meet in person. Double check your appointments, schedules, contracts, and look into any home maintenance you’ve neglected. Now might be a good time to fix that plumbing issue that’s been plaguing you.

Venus is still forging her retrograde path at 5 degrees of Gemini and trining (loosely) Jupiter and Pluto while she’s at it. This will quicken the complications of Venus in Gemini’s chatty sign, increasing communications and increasing potential lovers – choice paralysis may be a feature of this contact as we struggle to find the balance between too many options — with difficult results.

Gemini is ruled by Mercury, and so any love affairs that are not only impacted by Venus’s troubles will also be impacted by the miscommunication exemplified by Mercury in retrograde. In Gemini, this should be a double dose of difficulty. Additionally, if your romantic life isn’t highlighted, Venus may show up as losses or bad investments. Keep an eye on your resources and made sure more isn’t going out the door than you can handle.

Uranus in Taurus will continue to shake things up, speaking of resources. Restaurants, arts and entertainment — all those lovely luxuries that Taurus loves to enjoy, are still dealing with the fall out of the pandemic. But as more of them are reopening across the country, we are going to be faced with a new way of doing business for these venues — or no business at all. Expect more people to save money by staying in and learning how to make their own lavish dishes, but on the bigger stage of our lives, we may be watching a huge shift in resources that is affecting our lifestyle in a big way. Everything has changed, including the way we reckon with money as a nation and the free time we find ourselves with as a result from working from home.

(Post edited to reflect that Venus in Gemini trines Pluto and Jupiter, as opposed to originally reporting that it was opposing. Thank you to Antony for the catch!)

Aquarius Full Moon Eclipse, 8-7-2017

Aquarius Full Moon

Eclipse season is here! The Aquarius full moon ushers in the lunar eclipse at 15 degrees of Aquarius, with the sun opposing at 15 degrees of Leo.

Unlike previous new and full moons this 2017, this lunar eclipse promises to be a little less ‘exciting’ than in the past — unlike the Cancer new moon we experienced, which I know saw a lot of people’s home lives shifting. Anything we have full and new moons in cardinal signs, our lives are often shaken up. This time, we have dreamy, detached, and rebellious Aquarius calling the shots, affecting our private, emotional lives. Behind the scenes we can indulge in our trickster selves, inviting in the unexpected; yet, where the sun, our public face and our ego-self resides, we have a interesting conjunction with Mars.

With the sun at 15 degrees Leo, Mars loosely conjuncts at 11 degrees Leo. Imagine a king conferring with his general. While your emotional self may be indulging in cutting loose, in the forefront of your life, you might have to be making plans and strategizing, putting your best foot forward with the intensity and verve that Mars’ energy is renowned for. Go on the offensive. Stake your claim, mark your territory, take what is yours, be a strong ruler in your life. With the lunar eclipse in Aquarius, it may be that our private lives are experiencing an ending, and with Aquarius ruling the 11th house of acquaintances and friendships, dreams, goals, aspirations, perhaps we are letting go of a choice that didn’t work out for us, a friend who didn’t meet our expectations. We will need to borrow the solar energy of Leo to sally forth and blaze new trails, and Aquarius will love to break through any constraint put upon us by those old, outworn aspirations or friends who, it turned out, were only holding us back from our potential. Time to assume your power.

As if that weren’t enough of a momentum, consider supportive trines from the North Node at 24 degrees of Leo, to Uranus at 28 Aries in retrograde, and Saturn at 21 degrees Sagittarius also retrograde. The solar power of our kingly/queenly self is calling for us to lead through an ending. You’ve got the power to leap into a new beginning with Mars at your side and the fates themselves, the karmic North Node, beckoning you through. That’s not to say it will be easy, as the North Node doesn’t traffic in easy — but take advantage of the swift fast moving energy of the trines to break on through to the other side of whatever might be temporarily holding you back. It might even be a holdover from Saturn’s current transit through Sagittarius, as he will be going direct soon and whatever might be left undone is begging for completion under the last stages of his retrograde.

Jupiter at 17 degrees Libra also trines the Moon at 15 degrees of Aquarius. This emphasizes relationships and balance, and so friends may again be implicated through this contact with the cardinal sign of Libra. Jupiter’s expansive power through the trine will help quicken this ending that the lunar eclipse will bring to a close.

Mercury at 10 degrees Virgo opposes Neptune at 13 degrees Pisces, retrograde; Mercury is also preparing for his retrograde in the next few weeks. Keep up with your to-do lists as Neptune is going to pull us into his dreamy, escapist sphere, or else find a way to use that Neptune dissolution to dissolve something that has not been working for. Communications may have a fine layer of fraud or deception not readily apparent, and it will only increase as Mercury moves slower and slower in preparation for its retrograde. Sit down with some good Neptunian music and don’t make any promises, for you might find yourself unable to keep them.

Lastly, but significantly, there is a square from Pluto at 17 degrees of Capricorn, Saturn’s house by rulership, to Jupiter in Libra at 17 degrees. These are both cardinal signs, so the clash of energy promises to be felt in those arenas that affect our lives the most, in career and relationships. There may be an inequity, something out of balance, a desire for control between to factions, forces, or people, and Pluto will not be satisfied with Jupiter’s happy-go-lucky, dancing around the issue. It is not a time to be frivolous in intimate relationships or at work. Be respectful of everyone’s dignity and balance of power, even if you think the person you’re dealing with doesn’t deserve it or has done you wrong. Succumb to Pluto’s desire for control and cold-hearted dismissal and you might make an enemy who will turn around to bite you later.

A compilation of the full and new moons of 2018 will be available in late 2017, called Lunations, 2018, which will be made available as an ebook from Amazon.

New Moon and Solar Eclipse in Pisces on 2-26-2017, Impressions

sun-vintageimage-graphics-fairy-orgJupiter is the defining element of the New Moon eclipse in Pisces. Chatter has already started up about the ugly T-square forming among the malefics, the conjunction of Mars and Uranus hitting off aspects to the big baddies, Saturn and Pluto. The god of war, action oriented Mars in his home field of Aries makes him trigger happy, looking to expend his martial energy and fulfil his purpose.

If you’re like me and Mars owns a good portion of your personal planets, you’ll feel Mars tension and for many, it will manifest in argument and schisms between people fighting to get their way and to satisfy their desires — often at the expense of others. If Mars is subtle for you, you might find yourself full of nervous tension, but most of all, with Pluto in the mix, the physical self frustrates if it cannot find a way to release this energy. Hit the gym, go a few rounds with someone you trust, but most of all, stay in controlled environments where even if something unexpected should occur, you are surrounded by support systems or preparations that will help you weather unfortunate surprises. So if you do go to the gym — make sure there’s a first aid kit with you and you’ve got your boxing gloves laced up right.

What makes Jupiter so key in this eclipse is dependent upon a series of aspects. Not only does Jupiter conjunct with fixed star Spica, but as in the last lunar eclipse, Jupiter is lurching backwards into retrograde. Given the stellium in foggy Pisces where Mercury, Sun, Moon, and Neptune are thrown together, now might be a time when you discover the friends and contacts that you’ve accrued under Jupiter’s expansive influence in Libra are not the people you thought they were — either you fooled yourself about their true nature, or they concealed who they really are. Now might not be the right time to address those issues, however, with Mercury unable to operate with any fundamental clarity in the Neptunian house, and with the harsh aspects occurring between Pluto, Mars/Uranus, and Saturn.

Case in point, I had a dear friend approach me with a problem she has ongoing with a close friend of her own. She discovered this friend of hers had been concealing information from her in and effort to present themselves in a better light, and now she is unsure whether she wants to continue a friendship with this person. The concern is that this person is hot-headed and may react inappropriately if she abandons the friendship, even though they are in the wrong. Sometimes, no matter how right we are, how good our intentions, we should take the time to weigh the possible consequences of our choices. As satisfying as it would be for her to simply cut off her friendship and be done with the confusion and difficulty this false friend presented, sometimes our best course of action is simply to offer neither resistance nor help, but let others choose their own paths without our interference. Taking time away from problem-people and simply withdrawing is a passive strategy that is also, often, a healing one — time reveals yet more things we did not know, and problems that we were upset about before, suddenly unravel themselves while we were busy doing something else. The problems dissipates, and leaves us lighter than when we started.

As an old saying goes — don’t invite trouble to your door, because trouble already knows where you live. This would be a good thing to keep in mind if you find yourself faced with conflicts that you would ordinarily dive into this eclipse period. Take a deep breath and consider dealing with problems in new ways. When faced with a tide, it is pointless to swim against it — consider swimming with it until it ebbs and you can find your feet again and take new direction, instead of exhausting yourself in the struggle.

Saturn and Pluto are in play. Here is where, though it is not immediately obvious that Jupiter is the major player of this chart, as much of the bluster online is being made over the malefics — which are certainly alarming in their own right — Jupiter makes his presence known through rulership and a chain of dispositors.

Pluto moving through Capricorn is giving momentum to Saturn by rulership, as earthy and conscientious Capricorn is owned by disciplinarian Saturn; and Saturn, of course, is in Jupiter’s house of lucky, expansive Sagittarius, meaning that Saturn, already spurred by Plutonian energy from Capricorn, is filtering this turbo-charged force all the way to Jupiter, by rulership. And Jupiter wants bigger, better, faster, more! Is it like a fountain, where several trickles from the top are running down to form a flood at the bottom, where Jupiter is collecting all this potential force from the other planets.

We can follow the breadcrumbs of this chain of dispositors further if we wish, when we realize that if Jupiter is in Libra, that sign of relationships and equality, than where oh where is the ruler of Libra, Venus?

Venus can be found in Aries — also in opposition to Jupiter in Libra!

The goddess of love, rich in gifts of seduction and flattery, may be telling us something about the nature of our relationships and the choices we might make between them while Jupiter is in Libra. Some friends might run away with your heart during this eclipse! But beware, for it is in the myth of Aphrodite — Venus — that she is given a girdle by the gods that lends her the ability to wield her tongue to appeal to vanity. Make sure whoever you might be involved with is not simply selling you sweet dreams and words, pandering to your ego, with no intention of giving anything of value in return. Glamour and charm can be persuasive, but empty when they have lost their power to enchant.

Jupiter is also square Pluto in Capricorn and Venus in Aries, where Venus is at her detriment, and where rammy Mars also happens to be. Since Aries is Mars’ natural home, the presences of Uranus and Venus alongside him are secondary to Mars, who holds primacy over those planets. With the male and female energies in tight configuration, this could make for sparks between lovers, but this sexual tension could also easily manifest as argument, the knock-down drag-out 3 am fight that ends up in a heated reunion. If you live in close proximity with those kinds of romantic entanglements like I have, you might want to invest in some ear plugs to save your sanity. (Or, you might be inspiring others to buy ear plugs.)

Further complicating factors is Saturn in Sagittarius square Pluto in Capricorn and Mars/Uranus in Aries square Pluto. Jupiter in Libra will be expanding these malefics and is pulling at the stellium in Pisces — Chiron, Neptune, Mercury, Sun and Moon — as well as Venus, Mars, and Uranus seated in Aries.

Jupiter forms an anchor point in this configuration. And while the term anchor sounds like a stabilizing force, perhaps this is inaccurate — better to say that in this case, Jupiter’s amplifying power is perhaps best described as a slingshot, in which Mars conjunct Uranus and the stellium in Pisces is going to add expansive force to these planets and signs respective properties. Pisces in his foggy element will have the capacity to lead astray with greater enthusiasm or, at best, inspiring genius and creatives propelled by martial energy thanks to the god of war. Mars with Uranus will lend an intense force in their own arenas, Pluto’s square supercharging all that’s already in play in this clash of malefics.

Good luck everyone, stay safe, stay aware, and keep your thinking clear so you can perceive obstacles and work around them safely. I expect a potential uptick in car accidents (Mercury and Neptune) so be careful when out drinking and driving and navigating with your fellow citizens on the road.

Full Moon Eclipse In Leo on 2/10/2017, Impressions

Buckle up for this eclipse. I’m excited — are you?

We have a Leo-Aquarius polarity between the sun and the moon — the king and the fool standing on opposite sides of the court, the regal and revolutionary powers. Yet, with the moon in Leo, by rulership, this moon is happy to work with the sun. Politics are on everyone’s mind, so this amplifies the mood already at hand.

What’s interesting is that the Moon is fast approaching Regulus and there’s a good post that touches on what those fixed stars in that constellation of Leo means here. What is also prominent is that Regulus figures in Trump’s natal chart, so this eclipse might be ushering in truly unexpected changes in Trump’s character — or priming him for a fall. Either way, we little people outside the realm of influence in the political world of presidents and kings are dealing with our revolutionary troubles at home, at work, and in community. Lines are being drawn and people are being pushed in directions that heretofore were not prime issues in life. No one is allowed neutrality, anymore, and so this friction will likely bubble up during this eclipse.

In addition to the fixed star Regulus, we have a rather interesting conjunction of Jupiter at 23 degrees in Libra, sitting right on top of fixed star Spica. Jupiter, while often considered “benevolent” is really neither good nor bad, but a planet of expansion, which means it makes both the good and the bad bigger than they were before. Amplification does not always work in our favor, after all. However, rejoice, because Spica is a fixed star of wealth and good fortune joining forces with Jupiter!

Another aspect that leaps out from the chart is the arrangement of parallel and contra-parallel planets. The moon, Uranus, Sun, and Jupiter share in this arranged from their signs of Leo, Aries, Aquarius, and Libra. That’s quite a foursome of signs, criss-crossing their energies with regards to self-interests and community interests, between relationships and individuals.

Uranus in opposition to Jupiter in Libra is, as I’ve mentioned and will continue to, touching off those who were born with Pluto in Libra in the late ’70s, early ’80s. For them, these years will be defining points in their lives. Changes will be felt by all, but for this generation in the prime of life, what they do now will have severe consequences in the future, and those are, of course, political issues as well as personal ones. For those born outside of that time frame, things are no less heated, but the ramifications will be different. Everyone is being pushed into change by Uranus in Aries, but for the younger generation, there is still time yet to change course, refine purpose, and go beyond fixed fate. For the Pluto in Librans, age often closes windows of opportunity in our lives because we can’t suffer changes and surprises with the same fluidity as we could when we are young — and that’s hardly an astrological issue, but rather, one that is the evolving pattern of life. The clock is ticking. During this eclipse, choices will be determining the personal and collective future in a big way, and I’d be curious to know what executive orders, what bills, and what laws might be changed under its influence. Finance in our personal lives may also play a part, for while Spica is a fortunate star, the influence of Jupiter crossing over Pluto’s generational tracks may be revealing debts that need to be repaid, problems in spending, possessions being divided, or windfalls.

We also have a grand fire trine. I was born under a similar fire trine, so to say I’m supercharged and excited by this pattern is an understatement. Our trine comprises of Uranus in Aries, the Moon in Leo, and Saturn in Sagittarius. A strange arrangement of energies anchored in the moon and crossed over by the sun, Saturn in its detriment in Sagittarius plods away slowly though the 25th degree. His slow and steady gait will eventually over take electric Uranus in the sign of the Ram, while the moon in her swiftness dances around them all, but for now at their triangular points in fire signs should give us a sense of urgency in our individual tasks and matters, galvanizing us to meet challenges with extra vigor, even if the road is bumpy and our challenges unanticipated.
